Communities and Neighborhoods in Pittsburgh, PA

Pittsburgh is split off into five different selections: Downtown, North, South, East and West. Each selection hosts its own variety of neighborhoods unique to that particular area.

Downtown: More than 3,000 reside in the Downtown area and many more are joining them. Short commutes, breathtaking views and cultural conveniences are just some of the reasons young professionals, empty nesters, and families are seeking the Downtown living experience. Compared to other cities of similar size, housing costs in the City of Pittsburgh are among the lowest. The cost of a three-bedroom house in the Pittsburgh area is nearly 30% below the national average.

North: The Northern part of Pittsburgh is a popular location for entertainment and shopping as well as a great place to live. There are a bunch of neighborhoods that are situated in the northern part of Pittsburgh: Bellevue, Blawnox, Butler County, Fineview, Mercer County, Millvale, North Journal, North Side, Norwin Star, Oakmount, Sewickley Herald, Sharon Herald, and many others.

South: From the flats of historic South Side, up the hills or through the tunnels to close-knit ethnic city neighborhoods, the southern part of Pittsburgh offers a variety of activities for visitors and residents alike. The neighborhoods in this particular area include Arlington, Green Tree Borough, Perryopolis, South Side, South Hills Record, Upper St. Clair, Chartiers Valley, and more. The South Side offers a famous strip of night clubs, local pubs and even a coffeehouse or two, a.k.a. East Carson Street.

East: East Pittsburgh is so diverse, active and interesting that it could be a city all by itself. From multi-cultural Squirrel Hill to the trendy shops on Walnut Street in Shadyside, East Pittsburgh is much like Pittsburgh's own "New York City" with a hometown flavor. The neighborhoods here include East Liberty, Forest Hills Gorough, Hill District, Highland Park, Homewood, Lawrenceville, Murrysville, and many others.

West: The western part of the city is one of Pittsburgh's best kept secrets. Beginning within city limits at the West End, it expands to suburban boroughs such as Crafton with its fabulous old homes, to Robinson Township, a huge shopping district and large residential neighborhood. Most commonly known for the Pittsburgh International Airport located in Findlay Township, the west is in the middle of an economic development boom that's making it an attractive location for shopping, entertainment and living.
